Blocked by fear? Three Tips to Inspire You to Action

It’s natural to think that “If I feel passionately enough about something I will act on it.” Yet, this isn’t always true.
We can still experience blocks to action and manifestation. In fact, often the more important something is to us the more blocked we can get. Awareness of what dynamic is blocking you from successfully achieving your dreams is the key to moving past blocks with renewed enthusiasm.
Here are a few typical blocks and tips for bridging fear with inspired action that takes you to new heights.
- Fear of failure. When something is really important to us, like making a dream come true, fear can rear it’s debilitating head. “What if I try and can’t make it happen? Then what do I do?” you wonder. Sometimes it can feel scarier to try and fail. So we preciously hold the dream in our mind without taking action. That way it remains a “safe” possibility we can cling to.
Solution: Make a mini plan for taking action. Remember, you aren’t trying to make your dream come true in one giant leap. You’re taking steps that can be evaluated for effectiveness as you progress. And progress is the operative word here. When you take steps with good intentions you can’t really fail. You’ll always be moving forward even if you feel like you misstep. Each step informs the next step.
- Fear of inadequacy. It’s common to psyche ourselves out when it comes to our big goals. It’s fun to dream how our lives would change if only we….(you fill in the blank). Yet, when it comes down to taking a concrete action our brain produces all kinds of reasons we’re not prepared enough, experienced enough, lucky enough, or smart enough to make it happen. We imagine that other successful people have that magic something we just don’t have.
Solution: Believing you have everything you need to realize your goals. You came to this life with specific talents, gifts and interests. These have led you on a path of developing additional skills and knowledge. Life circumstances have produced further reservoirs of abilities and capabilities. When you understand that your life is not a mistake, you understand that you are fully enough to make your dreams happen. No one has the exact talents, skills and capabilities you do, because your life purpose is meant to unfold YOUR WAY. When your brain tells you different: DON’T BELIEVE IT! Laugh, inventory your strengths and defiantly take a step that affirms your goal.
- Fear of looking stupid or being unrealistic. The “call of practicality” has been with me each step of my life. Sometimes it helps me simplify what I need to do in a smart way, but quite often this ingrained call for practicality tries to squelch and down-size my dreams. Our culture tells us to be practical, yet daily supports irresponsible risk-taking behavior (a contributing factor to why our economy burned and crashed). What’s a level-headed big dreamer to do?
Solution: Balance these opposing instincts. Our best resource for balancing practicality with considered risks is our intuition. Don’t wait for intuition to pipe up; directly ask your intuition for input related to an action. This is will help you start releasing the habit of letting your brain override your intuitive wisdom. Start asking your intuition whether proposed steps feel right or are best for you? Start acknowledging the feedback you get. You may have thoughts pop into your head, you might get a physical reaction like goosebumps. Also, stay open to the information the universe sends in support of your goals. Notice it!! We know when something is wrong or right for us, no matter what the rest of the world is doing. Follow that wisdom.
