How To Be the Bright Light You Are: An Interview with Creative Force Dee Wallace

Dee Wallace, who is perhaps emblazoned on the collective consciousness as the mother in the beloved movie E.T., has written an insightful and inspiring biography/personal-development book called Bright Light: Spiritual Lessons From A Life In Acting.” Her personal journey is part “phone home” and “follow the yellow the brick road,” and much more. As an actor, healer, author she has much to share and she does so with honesty and openness.

We begin our conversations talking about the challenge of marketing one’s “bright light.” Dee, in her very clear manner immediately offers that someone once told her that it’s not right to hold back the gifts you have that can expand others.

“Market from the energy ‘I joyfully get to share so we can all be joyful,’” she says. “Someone who does think of themselves as joyful and magnificent affects the consciousness of the world. Then there is no barrier to taking that energy out to the world.” Clearly, Dee Wallace is taking her joy and magnificence out into the world and serving others by doing so.

Setting clear intentions
Like many of us, Dee has struggled with being blocked by old beliefs and by not really truly believing she was joyful and magnificent. Many times over, she’s asked herself: “Do I really believe in my intention?

Dee recalls that she always knew about setting intentions in her career. She wanted to be in movies, wanted great parts, enjoyed drama more than comedy.

“I always knew that I wanted to act and had to act truthfully and wanted to do it in a big way,” she states. “I always had dreams of being really big, yet I also held the messages of not getting too big because then I wouldn’t be a good little girl.”

What does money equal to you?
For those who are struggling with question of financial abundance, a good question is, “Do I see myself as someone who can create a million a year or as someone who does.Dee asks herself this same question. “Can always holds it in the future. From the can perspective I see the world as never having a million dollars a year, but it could have. What I want is to direct energy to know and choose that I make a million now and that it has to match my desire for freedom, joy, bliss and unconditional love.”

As this shows, the importance of intent and direction is huge. When we’re not clear in our direction to the universe, our autopilot beliefs direct the outcomes we experience. For instance, based on growing up poor in Kansas, Dee can understand the genesis of beliefs like: “If I make a million dollars my ego is going to take over and I’m going to screw everyone. Or people who have the money are the bad guys and I’m going to be one of those if I make money.”

What does money equal to you? Be clear Dee says.” Does money relate to those people who are taking away our homes so money is bad? Are people associated with money bad?” Instead practice believing this: “Money is just another form of energy and I get to direct energy to create beautiful experiences in life.”

Create victim or victor
According to Dee, when we really get conscious of the illusion (that we are separate from all creation), the more we love self and understand we are God — the creative force that creates yourself as the victim or as victor.

Dee suggests imagining the following scenario: “Imagine you wake up each morning and the universe is a plate of Play-Doh (children’s craft clay). Think to yourself: ‘What do I want to make?’ We’re only here to play with energy. What does it look like if I’m an asshole and what if I’m a saint? What does it look like if I make what I want or if I sabotage what I want?

Dee believes that owning ones creative power takes a lot of the misunderstanding and fear out of the creative process. “We’ve used the creative process most of our lives as something to control.” That’s where we get into struggle and fear and doubt.

Knowing what’s possible now
“It’s possible and I deserve it is my mantra now,” says Dee Wallace.

“It changed my life to read The ‘I AM’ Discourses. You help yourself by directing the universe what to do.” According to Dee, if you get up and give it (the universe) tired you get tired. When she gets up she directs: “I’m going to be freedom, joy, abundant energy, amazing health, bliss and unconditional love.”

“Everything and every subject has to match my direction. The universe is going to deliver that to me out of all the possibilities.”

Notice when you are and aren’t in balance
To illustrate her point, she shares a timely example. “I’ve just been saying that I want to find joy and happiness in acting again. Now freedom is an important word for me. I got a call from a director that I’ve worked with and adore. I got so excited because my last experience with him was full of freedom and creativity and I felt reborn as an actor. I didn’t have to go out and create this. It just came to me. Then they tell me that everyone is working for scale. ‘Holy Hell,’ I think, ‘Somehow I had the belief that money was taking me out of my freedom. We’re going to balance this.’ So I choose it is my clear choice to know that when I make a lot of money I am free and living in unconditional love.”

This incident shows how important it is to notice when your beliefs aren’t in alignment or balance with your intentions and goals. Dee points out, “Sometimes we’re right in the middle of shifting something. Yesterday I got a call from director in Europe saying we want to pay you a lot of money. So universe balanced my desires. Everything I asked for given me, but not in package I imagined.” In this case her desires were fulfilled in two movies rather than one.

Out of the mind and into heart
Another way to stay out of struggle is to get out of our minds and into our hearts. The lessons of E.T. and all her other movies haven’t been lost on her. In fact, throughout her book she describes how her movies were a perfect reflection of her life process at the time. I found this fascinating to someone like me who believes the universe is always communicating with us and sees soul symbols in visuals (my intuitive dream board process).

“It’s been taught for ions that the safe place to go is to go to head and figure it all out. We’ve been taught that consciousness is your intelligence. Consciousness is created from perception. How I see myself creates the consciousness I live in, which creates how limitless I live,” states Dee.

Beliefs and Blocks
“The world says ‘Yes’ around beliefs you hold. As you believe it’s delivered unto you,” Dee states.

To get clarity around your beliefs she suggests: “Take one thing in your life not showing up as you want it to. Ask yourself: ‘What perspective do I hold about me related to that?’”

As an example of this, Dee chooses acting to look at and the fact that she is not doing roles she wants to be doing. She asks herself: “What perspectives do I hold around women of my age?” Then she answers herself: “Oh, I bought into the belief that there’s not enough roles for women of my age!”

To balance this belief Dee affirms: “I want to believe that whatever parts are available, that are great, they want Dee Wallace and I want them. That’s the energy I give out based in (feeling tones of) joy, bliss, love, freedom.”

According to Dee, another important question to ask when you realize that you hold a belief not in alignment with your goals is: “Why aren’t I matching these two things already? What do I have to remember?” Then you remind yourself: “I have to remember that I am unlimited creation. Everything is possible to me.”

The Secret: Be in choice in every moment
“Create you first.” Dee says you have to be freedom, joy, and bliss first for you to match that with physical manifestation. ”Can you be freedom, joy, and bliss when things aren’t going great just as you can when they are? Can you be that in every moment? Need to be in choice in every moment.”

She continues, “Who do I want to define myself as in this moment. The folks in Joplin, Missouri (after the tornado) either said to themselves: I give up or I create again. Most of us keep living after we give up. You see it in people who think, ‘I hate this job, I have to stay in this job.’ It keeps people in desperation.”

There’s no place like home
When I ask Dee about her strong ties to Kansas she says: “That’s really authentically who I am. Kansas represents the truth to me. I learned limited truths there, but it’s home and home is the truth of who I am. I was always the bright light. We’re all sheer bright amazing life. We pull it in. When things go wrong, we should say ‘Screw this, I’m going to shine brighter now.’ Instead we turn down the tool we create with, our light.”

Dee Wallace’s journey so clearly illustrates what she now teaches: Our purpose here is to play with the energy and expand our understanding. As she puts it, “We are serving others by expanding God, if God is the energy of all possibility of all thought.”

“It’s all about you Dorothy,” she says to me, referring to the main character in the Wizard of Oz. “Just like she learns at the end: You had the power all along.”
