How to Engage in Networking Flow

I just got back from the eWomenNetwork conference in Dallas.
This was my second year and I was really looking forward to hearing speakers like Marci Shimoff and Michael Gerber. They did not disappoint. In fact I was so impressed with Marci’s interactive presentation that I asked her if I could interview her for my ezine “What You Notice Matters! and she agreed. That was worth the cost of the entire conference.
Yet, what I noticed was that I was comparing the eWomenNetwork conference to my experience there last year. There were fewer scheduled networking rounds. There were production and timing issues. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I had just gotten back from Kauai and hadn’t caught up with my sleep.
After a day of not feeling very pleased with these things I spoke with a fellow networking woman who reported that she was experiencing networking nirvana — that absolutly euphoric feeling of being in flow and having the best of all possibilities being realized. To be honest, I had networking flow envy.
This was a great reminder to me that thinking, speaking and acting in the moment, and with no expectations, is the best way to approach any networking event. Just show up and be open to possibility. Just show up and be open to connection. Just show up and be joyfully curious about what will present itself to you. For something wonderful always does. Also have faith in your intuitive ability to sit next to exactly the person you need to meet. Know that you are being supported by the universe.
Once I did faced the day with these happy thoughts in mind, the second day of networking was more satisfying. I was at ease. I knew it was all enough — each person I spoke with, each connected experience.
