Peter Lambrou

Always on the lookout for new ways that clients can release what is keeping them stuck and preventing them from playing at the top of their game, I interviewed one of the book’s authors, Peter Lambrou PhD.

According to Dr. Lambrou — a licensed clinical psychologist and specialist in anxiety, work stress, weight loss, and emotional self-management — after decades of clinical experience, the authors decided that a process for self-application was needed to help more people worldwide.

Lambrou states, “The book is suited for people who feel the fog of distress. They know something is missing or something can be improved, but it’s not significant enough to see a therapist. We teach them this tool so they can empower themselves.”

The 4 step Code to Joy process includes:

1. Identify.

What life limiting belief may you have? During this step you self interview and self assess. If you experienced chaos in your childhood apprehension about the future may be an issue. Trust might be an issue. For some people, it’s not about just one blocking belief. There may be layers with one belief stacked on top of another.

To help readers identify their blocking belief, authors George Pratt PhD and Lambrou have distilled 94 different beliefs (that they identified in their practice) down to 7 key beliefs (It’s not safe, I’m not loveable, I’m powerless, etc.)

2. Clear.

This visualizing step helps you to clear your body’s energy systems from interferences, so that you (and your energy systems) can accept new belief patterns. Think of your energy system like a cup that has toxins in it. These have to be cleared out before you can refill your cup with fresh water.

3. Repattern.

In this step you take that negative belief you identified in step one and turn it on it’s head to create a personal code of joy. The book encourages everyone to add a statement around self acceptance to the new belief. Lambrou explains, “Self acceptance is the foundation of self-esteem and for making changes in one’s life.” He likens it to being an astronaut in a space station. In the weightless part of the capsule all movements will keep you in the same place. Once you get grounded by a bulkhead of self-acceptance you can push off anywhere want to go. This is the part of the repatterning step that acknowledges: I’m safe and OK where I’m at.

4. Anchor.

This step is based on NLP concepts and is intended to produce a way to anchor a new pattern, a new thought process so it’s not lost under time and duress. Anchoring also enables you to reinstall your new belief, if necessary. This step employs imagery (choosing a personal symbol of balance and self talk, along with an energetic holding position.

code to joyAfter the initial four step process, it’s recommended that you do a condensed version several times a day for about a month — the time it takes new habits to establish themselves.

Lambrou states encouragingly, “There is never a time in life where it’s too late to make a change, to take off in a new direction. Even something that has persisted since childhood, can always be repatterned, so you can experience happiness for the rest of your life.”

I encourage you to read the book to access this simple and yet remarkable process: Code to Joy: The Four-Step Solution to Unlocking Your Natural State of Happiness
