Spring Clean Your Mind and Spirit

This has been a weekend of spring cleaning in the house and spring clearing in the yard. It always feels so good to start fresh. The energy in my home just feels lighter and freer. And, the yard can breathe again.
This reminded me how important it is to spring clean and clear our personal space — our mental and emotional rooms and spiritual yards — so that we consciously and mindfully invite in fresh breezes that move our hopes and dreams toward manifestation.
Here are a few tips for how to spring clean your personal space and energy:
- Clear away what’s not needed any longer. Release it to the compost pile! As I was cutting back my fuchsia and hydrangea plants today, the insight arose that we need to clear the debris of the winter to make room for new growth. I personally have done lots of emotional and spiritual work this winter and I want to be sure that I’m clear on what I’ve learned and how that directs me forward. I want to release and clear out any remaining “debris” so that my path ahead is uncluttered. Journal writing is a great way to be sure you’ve mentally and emotionally trimmed back the dead stuff that no longer sprouts new growth.
- Take stock of where your roots are deepest and what needs tender care to bloom. In some areas of your life you may feel deeply rooted — in your relationships, perhaps, or in your career. In other areas you may feel newly “planted.” In these areas, be mindful of what you need to do to nurture new growth. For me, meditation is the new plant in my spiritual life. I need to practice discipline for mediation to become a rooted practice in my life.
- Review what’s a keeper, and what you can release. As I was cleaning this weekend, I went through all my jewelry, sorting and deciding what to keep and what to give away. We all have abundance in our lives, often in little pockets that we don’t pay attention to. By looking at areas of abundance and then spreading that wealth, we invite abundance in new areas of our life. We make room for it. Consider your personality assets: I have an abundance of intuition. So helping clients to use their intuition in expanded ways is a natural way for me to give. I have set the intention to receive help in another area that could use some expansion. Where can you give? Where do you want to receive support?
Spring cleaning is not just for the home and the yard beautification. Releasing the old, cleaning off your treasures, and making room for new growth is just as important at a personal self level. Do it for your own personal satisfaction and energy well-being.
